We had already had lunch at Upstairs at the Grill, so we decided to have a light bite at Hickory’s Smokehouse Chester.
We arrived at the restaurant just before 6.30pm, and it was already full, which is a good sign. There were no tables available for about 20 minutes, but two chairs were available around the open kitchen area.
Hickory’s have a broad main menu, but they also have different additional menus for breakfast, brunch, gluten free options and separate kids menu.

The drinks menu had a selection of bottled and draft beer, canned lagers, craft beers, a selection of wines, cocktails and soft drinks.
Having already had a bottle of Champagne earlier in the day we decide to have a can of Anchor California Lager and a gin and tonic.
The Anchor California Lager was £4.25 a can, which was cheaper than the £5.25 paid at Upstairs at the Grill earlier in the day.
The double gin and tonics at only £.6.50 were a reasonable price considering the £11.00 paid for a single at The Chester Grosvenor Hotel later in the evening.
We only had a light bite, so we decided to go for the large Slow Smoked Chicken Wings with Fries and American Slaw to share.
There was no problem with the food, although we both found the American Slaw, not to our liking.
The cost of the food and drinks were reasonable with the total bill coming to £36.65 before the tip.
We had not booked, and the restaurant was full but found sitting around the open kitchen an enjoyable experience.
The staff were efficient and helpful so we could not fault the service.

The meal and the service provided met our expectations, and we would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a burger or even a steak.
We will return to Hickory’s Smokehouse Chester. However, next time we will make sure we make a reservation and have a meal with starters and main course.
